Rebekah Turnmire

The Center for Civil Rights History and Research is housed in the Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library on the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus and is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Center provides educational programming, public engagement, and research guidance for those interested in civil rights history.

Rosa Kennerly-Dance

Retired educator who led the efforts to restore the Great Branch Rosenwald Teacher's Home located at 2098 Neeses Highway, Orangeburg, SC 29107. I learned what it takes to restore an old building - money and a dedicated team.

Stacey Young

I am an archaeologist based in Columbia, South Carolina. I have over 20 years of experience primarily working on archaeological sites in the Southeastern United States. My areas of expertise include: sites and spaces associated with African Americans and Native Americans, and engaging with descendant and local communities.

Suzanne DiBella

I am the registrar for the International African American Museum. I have a Master's in Museum Studies and a Bachelor's in Anthropology. I have over 12 years of experience in the museum field, and my area of expertise is in collections management, collections care, and research.

Tabitha Samuel

Ms. Tabitha Y. Samuel, MLIS, is the Digital Archivist for the Waring Historical Library of the MUSC. She manages the library's digital collections. Her area of expertise is in digitizing historical materials and researching in archival, special, and digital collections.

Tyrie Rowell

Tyrie K. Rowell is an Adjunct Professor of Theatre and Financial Aid Counselor at USC Lancaster. He is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education program with Antioch University, and holds a Master of Fine Arts from Goddard College and a Bachelor of Arts from Univ. of South Carolina

Valinda Littlfield

I have 40 years of experience in oral history practices. My area of expertise is African American History post 1840.

Victoria Smalls

Smalls, a South Carolina Gullah Geechee native and leader, champions culture, climate, land, and ocean justice for Gullah Geechee communities, excelling in heritage preservation. A Cultural Preservationist, project director, funding specialist, presenter, and speaker, Smalls is dedicated to protecting Gullah Geechee history, culture and communities. Website is currently under construction.

Wallace Foxworth

I have an interest in local and state history. I am a middle school South Carolina history teacher. I have been teaching for approximately 30 years. I work with other organizations that promote the understanding of state history. I also attend institutes/workshops that help me increase my historical knowledge.

Walter Curry

I am the founder of Renaissance Publications, LLC, a self-publishing company that focuses on publishing and producing works in the literary arts, specializing in historical scholarship through ancestry and local history. My skills include curriculum design and development in African American history, family history research and writing, and exhibit planning/design.
