The restoration of the 1925 St. George Rosenwald School began in 2015 with the creation of the St. George Rosenwald School Board to oversee the rehabilitation of the historic structure. Restoration work began in 2017 and is nearly complete. The building had to be gutted but was rebuilt using historic materials. The original classrooms were restored and the building is being prepared to serve as a museum and cultural center with an auditorium with modern sound system, library with books from the Rosenwald School, warming kitchen for food, as well as an exhibit room, event room and restrooms.
